If it's a concrete surface, we can coat it.
A driveway, a retaining wall, a pool surround, and a block boundary wall all deal with different kinds of moisture, traffic, wear, and exposure, so the coating system has to match the surface rather than forcing one product everywhere.
Driveway Painting & Sealing
A driveway is one of the biggest visual surfaces on your property and one of the first things people notice from the street. Painting or sealing it can lift the whole front of the home, while also helping protect against oil staining, tyre marks, water ingress, algae growth, and that tired patchy look bare concrete develops over time.
Paths & Walkways
Concrete paths and walkways connect the home and shape how the property feels as you move through it. When they are bare, stained, slippery, or algae-covered, they can make the whole place feel less cared for than it actually is.
A painted or sealed path is easier to maintain, cleaner-looking, and safer in wet weather when the right anti-slip system is used. We can also use coloured concrete coatings where you want the paths to tie in better with the exterior palette of the house.
Retaining Wall Painting
Retaining walls are common across the North Shore and they often have to handle moisture pressure from behind, weather from the front, and strong UV from above. That makes them one of the more technically demanding concrete surfaces to coat properly.
For these walls, breathable systems matter. The coating needs to help protect the surface without trapping moisture behind it, because that is where blistering, peeling, and accelerated breakdown usually begin.
Foundation Wall Painting
The exposed concrete base of the house is easy to overlook, but it has a real impact on how finished the exterior feels. Painting or sealing foundation walls helps clean up the base of the home visually while also reducing moisture absorption and surface growth in an area that often gets neglected. We can match foundation colours to complement the cladding above so the whole exterior feels more deliberate and less broken up.
Concrete Block Fences & Boundary Walls
Concrete block fences and boundary walls can quickly start looking flat, stained, or weathered if they are left bare. A proper concrete coating can give these surfaces a cleaner, more finished appearance while also helping manage algae growth, efflorescence, and moisture-related deterioration.
For larger wall areas, spray application can be an efficient way to achieve even coverage, and textured systems can also be used where you want more depth and visual interest than a plain flat-painted block wall.
Steps & Stairways
Concrete steps need to look tidy, but they also need to be safe. Wet steps can become slippery quickly, especially in Auckland conditions, which is why anti-slip performance is often just as important as appearance on these surfaces. We apply hard-wearing concrete coatings with anti-slip texture to improve footing and can also highlight step edges where better visibility is needed.
Patios & Outdoor Entertainment Areas
Patios and outdoor living areas benefit from coatings that make the surface easier to clean and better protected from food, drink, barbecue grease, algae growth, and general weather exposure. These spaces are often seen up close, so the finish matters more than people expect. We use exterior-grade systems that can handle Auckland rain, sun, and general outdoor use while helping the area feel more finished as part of the wider property.
Pool Surrounds & Commercial Concrete
Pool surrounds need a very specific balance of durability, non-slip performance, UV stability, and resistance to water and chlorine exposure. Commercial concrete surfaces such as car parks, loading areas, retail frontages, and service zones need tougher traffic-aware systems that can also incorporate line marking and safety treatment where needed.
Although these spaces are very different in use, the common factor is that the coating system has to be chosen around performance first, not just appearance.
Concrete Coating Systems Explained
Different concrete surfaces and exposure conditions need different systems. Here's our expert guide to choosing the right finish for every surface in your property.
Acrylic Concrete Paint
Elastomeric Masonry Coating
Elastomeric masonry coatings are designed for concrete and masonry surfaces that already show hairline cracking or are likely to move slightly over time. These systems are more flexible than standard paint and can help bridge small cracks rather than simply splitting across them.
Penetrating Concrete Sealer
Where you want to keep the natural look of the concrete, a penetrating sealer is often the right choice. It soaks into the concrete rather than forming a coloured surface film, helping repel water, oil, and staining while leaving the concrete closer to its natural appearance.
Anti-Slip, Epoxy & Textured Systems
Anti-slip coatings are important for steps, ramps, pool surrounds, and sloped paths; epoxy is better suited to interior or covered traffic-bearing concrete like garages and some commercial floors; and textured coatings can be used to add depth and hide minor imperfections on block walls and fences.

Concrete Painting Step by Step
Refined over 17 years and thousands of completed interiors. Consistent quality, minimal disruption.
Free Site Assessment
We start by checking the condition of the surface, including cracks, stains, efflorescence, moisture levels, existing coatings, and general exposure. That tells us what preparation is needed and which type of system is the right fit for the concrete.
Surface Preparation
The concrete is then thoroughly water blasted to remove dirt, algae, mould, lichen, loose material, and other surface contamination. Where biological growth is present, anti-fungal treatment is used as well so the coating is not being applied over active growth.
Crack & Surface Repair
Cracks, damaged areas, spalling, and open joints are repaired before coating starts. Oil contamination and heavier staining are also treated where needed, because they will affect adhesion if they are left sitting in the substrate.
Concrete Priming
Concrete primer is what ties the system together. It helps seal the pores, manage alkalinity, reduce bleed-through issues, and create a more reliable base for the topcoats that follow.
Professional Application
Once the surface is prepared and primed, the chosen coating is applied by roller, brush, or spray depending on the area and the product. Two topcoats are standard on most jobs, with the exact method adjusted depending on whether the surface is horizontal, vertical, textured, or more open to weather.
Inspection & Handover
At the end of the job, we inspect the finish, make sure the coverage and texture are right, and leave you with a completed surface that is ready to cure properly. We also explain any curing or aftercare requirements so the new system has the best chance of lasting well.
Concrete painting cost guide.
Concrete coating costs vary depending on the type of surface, the condition of the substrate, the system being applied, and the amount of preparation required before coating can begin.
What Affects Painting Cost?
Surface area: Larger concrete areas usually achieve better rates because setup and material use spread more efficiently.
Surface condition: Stained, cracked, algae-covered, or spalled concrete needs more preparation before coating begins.
Efflorescence: Heavy salt deposits often need extra treatment before a coating system can be applied properly.
Oil contamination: Driveways and aprons with oil staining may need degreasing, poulticing, or deeper surface treatment.
Moisture issues: Damp concrete may need extra drying time, breathable systems, or moisture-managing primers.
Coating type: Sealers cost less than acrylic paints, while elastomeric and specialist systems cost more.
Orientation: Horizontal surfaces usually wear faster and need stronger protection than vertical concrete walls.

What North Shore Homeowners Say
Concrete Painting FAQs
How much does it cost to paint a driveway on the North Shore?
That depends on the size of the driveway, the condition of the surface, and whether you are painting or sealing it. Cleaner driveways in good condition sit lower than those with oil staining, cracking, algae growth, or heavier prep requirements.
Should I paint or seal my concrete driveway?
That depends on the look you want. Painting gives a solid, uniform colour finish, while sealing protects the surface but keeps the concrete closer to its natural appearance, which can be the better choice for decorative or exposed aggregate driveways.
How long does concrete paint last?
That depends on the surface and the exposure. Vertical concrete tends to last longer than horizontal traffic-bearing areas, and heavier-duty systems on driveways and exposed areas generally perform better than lighter coatings on hard-wearing surfaces.
Can you paint retaining walls that are damp?
Not while they are actively damp. Retaining walls need the right conditions and the right breathable coating system, otherwise the finish is likely to fail.
What about the white salt stains on my concrete walls?
Those are usually efflorescence, which is a common issue on retaining walls and other moisture-affected concrete. We treat the surface properly before coating so the new system has a better chance of holding up cleanly.
Can you add non-slip finish to my concrete paths and steps?
Yes. Anti-slip additives can be built into the coating system for paths, steps, ramps, pool surrounds, and other slip-prone areas.
Do you paint pool surrounds?
Yes. Pool surrounds need a more specialist coating because they are exposed to water, UV, and slip risk all at once. We use systems chosen around those conditions rather than standard exterior paint.
Do you do commercial concrete painting?
Yes. We coat commercial concrete areas such as car parks, loading zones, retail frontages, and other hard-use surfaces, with line marking and safety treatments added where needed.
