Different timber finishes do different jobs. The best option depends on the timber, the exposure, and how natural or colour-led you want the final result to feel.
Penetrating Oil Stain
This is our most recommended all-round option for outdoor timber. It penetrates the grain, gives strong UV and moisture protection, and is easy to maintain because it fades rather than peels.
Penetrating Timber Oil
Timber oil gives the most natural look and deepest timber feel. It is especially well suited to premium hardwoods and feature timber where preserving the character of the material matters most.
Semi-Solid & Solid Stain
These options give you more pigment, stronger colour control, and longer-lasting UV hold than lighter oils or transparent stains. They are often the better fit for weathered timber or projects where appearance needs more correction.
Clear Timber Finish
Clear finishes are best where keeping the timber as natural as possible is the priority. They are most suitable on premium timber in more sheltered locations, as they offer less UV protection than tinted systems.

Cleaning & Washing
Every timber surface is cleaned to remove dirt, mould, algae, lichen, and surface contamination. This gives the new finish a cleaner base and helps the timber take the product more evenly.

Mould & Algae Treatment
Where biological growth is present, we apply anti-fungal treatment after washing. This helps stop regrowth under the new stain and improves long-term finish performance.

Sanding & Repairs
Once the timber is dry, we sand it to remove grey degraded fibres and open the grain for better penetration. We also tighten fixings, deal with minor defects, and give extra attention to exposed ends and vulnerable moisture points.

Professional Application
The chosen product is applied by brush, applicator, or spray with back-brushing depending on the surface. Two coats are standard, with extra attention given to end grain, post tops, and other areas that take more exposure.
