If it's inside your home, we can paint it.
Our interior painters North Shore team handles every painted surface inside your home. No surface is too big, too small, too high, or too detailed for our experienced crew.
Walls Painting
Walls are the foundation of every interior. We paint living room walls, bedroom walls, hallway walls, kitchen walls, bathroom walls, and laundry walls. Whether you’re refreshing existing colours, making a dramatic change, or painting new GIB board for the first time, we deliver smooth, even coverage with no roller marks, drips, or missed patches. For high-traffic areas, we recommend scuff-resistant, washable finishes like Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen or Dulux Wash & Wear.
Ceilings Painting
Ceiling painting is one of the most technically demanding aspects of interior work — every imperfection is magnified by overhead light. Our painters use ultra-flat ceiling paints like Resene Ceiling Paint that absorb light and minimise the appearance of surface imperfections. High-stud ceilings found in many North Shore villas and character homes require specialist access equipment, which we provide as part of every project.
Trims, Skirting & Architraves Painting
The trim work is where a professional paint job really stands out. Skirting boards, architraves, window frames, door frames, and picture rails all require careful, steady brushwork with semi-gloss or gloss enamel paints. We use Resene Lustacryl or Dulux Aquanamel — delivering a hard, smooth, wipeable finish that resists scuffs, fingerprints, and general wear. Older North Shore homes with ornate timber trims receive particular attention.
Doors & Door Frames Painting
Interior doors are one of the most touched surfaces in your home. We paint solid timber doors, hollow-core doors, French doors, bifold doors, and sliding doors with hard-wearing enamel paints that resist constant handling. Every door is sanded, cleaned, and undercoated before receiving two topcoats of premium enamel for a smooth, factory-quality finish.
Feature Walls & Accent Walls Painting
A well-executed feature wall can completely transform a room — adding depth, personality, and visual interest without overwhelming the space. Our team helps you select the perfect accent colour and applies it with crisp, clean edges. We also create two-tone schemes, dado rail effects, and geometric patterns for clients who want something truly unique.
Bathrooms, Kitchens & Painting in Wet Areas
Wet areas require specialised paint products that resist moisture, steam, and mould growth. We use dedicated bathroom and kitchen paints like Resene SpaceCote Kitchen & Bathroom — formulated with anti-mould additives and moisture-resistant properties. These products prevent peeling, bubbling, and mould growth that commonly affect poorly painted wet areas in Auckland’s humid climate.
Stairwells & High-Traffic Areas Painting
Stairwells and hallways in multi-level North Shore homes present unique access challenges — high walls, awkward angles, and limited working space. Our team uses stairwell scaffolding, platform ladders, and extension poles to safely reach every surface. These zones receive durable, washable paints that stand up to constant foot traffic and scuff marks.
Interior Renovation & Painting
As a division of Above Board Interiors — Auckland’s GIB® specialists — we offer a seamless transition from plastering to painting. For renovations, extensions, and new builds, we paint fresh GIB board with the correct sealer and topcoat system to achieve a flawless Level 4 or Level 5 paint finish.
Interior Paint Finishes Explained
The sheen level you choose affects how a room looks, feels, and performs. Here's our expert guide to choosing the right finish for every surface in your home.
Gloss Finish
Gloss finish is highly reflective, hard-wearing finish that’s easy to wipe clean. It’s ideal for busy family homes. Gloss is more durable than lower-sheen alternatives. It can highlight minor surface imperfections, so thorough preparation important.
Semi-Gloss Finish
Semi-gloss paint has a slightly glossy appearance but isn't as reflective as gloss paints. It has a satin sheen that is suitable for all interior surfaces, including walls, doors, trims and cupboards. Also great for high-traffic areas like kitchens and lounge rooms.
Low Sheen Finish
Low sheen paint forms a velvety finish that is super hard-wearing and easy to keep clean. It can also hide surface imperfections better than gloss paints. Suitable for almost all interior surfaces and great for areas where frequent cleaning is necessary.
Matt Finish
Matt paint has low light reflection which gives it a stylish, sophisticated finish. The lower light reflection also helps hide surface imperfections, which can be helpful in family homes. Perfect for softening the effect of glare along hallways or in rooms with large windows.

What North Shore Homeowners Say
Interior Painting FAQs
How much does interior painting cost on the North Shore?
Interior painting typically costs $35 – $55 per square metre depending on surface condition and preparation required. A single bedroom repaint costs $800–$2,000, while a full 3-bedroom interior ranges from $12,000 – $18,000. New builds with fresh GIB are at the lower end; older homes needing heavy prep are at the higher end. We provide free, detailed quotes for every project.
How long does it take to paint the interior of a house?
A single room takes 1–2 days. A full 3-bedroom interior typically takes 5–10 working days, depending on preparation requirements. We provide a detailed schedule with your quote and communicate progress daily.
What interior paint finish should I choose?
For most walls, we recommend low sheen (Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen or Dulux Wash & Wear). Ceilings look best in flat. Bathrooms and kitchens need mid sheen with anti-mould properties. Trims and doors should be semi-gloss enamel. Our free colour consultation includes finish recommendations for every room.
Do I need to move out while you paint?
Usually not. We paint room by room, allowing you to continue living in your home. We protect all furniture and flooring, use low-VOC paints, and clean up daily. For extensive projects with heavy sanding or spray painting, we may suggest temporarily vacating specific rooms.
Can you fix cracks and holes before painting?
Yes. Crack and hole repair is a standard part of our preparation process. We fill all imperfections with premium fillers, sand smooth, and prime before painting. For more significant wall damage, our parent company Above Board Interiors can provide skim-coating, GIB replacement, and interior plastering.
What paint brands do you use?
We use Resene and Dulux exclusively. Key products include Resene SpaceCote (walls), Resene Lustacryl (trims), Resene SpaceCote Kitchen & Bathroom (wet areas), and Dulux Wash & Wear. All products are premium, low-VOC, and New Zealand-formulated.
Do you paint new builds and renovations?
Absolutely. As a division of Above Board Interiors, we specialise in painting new GIB board and renovation surfaces. We handle the complete journey from GIB fixing and stopping through to the final painted finish — all from one team.
Can you paint over wallpaper?
In some cases, yes — but we generally recommend removing wallpaper first for the best result. Painting over wallpaper can lead to bubbling, peeling, and visible seams. We can assess your situation during our free consultation and advise the best approach.
